Special Issue on Cancer Biomarkers

At present there are a growing number of scientifically investigated biomolecules. Research efforts are increasingly made to understand the potential role of biomolecules as cancer biomarker for diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic purposes.
Intriguingly, the state of the art in the field of cancer biomarker research shows both promising empirical results and research projects leading to failures. In oncology, clinical molecular diagnostics and biomarker discoveries are advancing rapidly. Medical scholars begin to understand the complex mechanisms that transform a normal cell into an abnormal one.
Recent advances in multiplex genotyping technologies and high-throughput genomic profiling by next-generation gene sequencing approaches make possible the rapid and comprehensive analysis of the cancer genome of individual patients even from very little tumor biopsy material.
Thus, this topical issue invites submissions from all aspects of cancer biomarker research. This includes original research, such as clinical trials and translational or basic research results. As well, reviews and opinion pieces are encouraged to be submitted.
This special issue seeks to contribute crucially to the development of cancer biomarker research.
